Julie Partansky was a very special woman. She made an indelible impression in Davis and to all who knew her. Her spirit soared with many of the local artists, musicians, and citizens of this Earth as she shared her visions and made a difference. As an artist she asked questions, and lots of them. As mayor of Davis she considered common sense and the environment.
She associated with metamorphic creatures such as butterflies and amphibians, her star motif projected into the Dark Sky Ordinance, the question marks indicating perpetual curiosity at the mystery of existence. Also one of the most hard-working members of the Davis City Council (she read all of the material), taking suggestions from citizen comments and inserting them directly into legislation.
Today, her spirit soars with the stars. Ironically, her “stars” still grace the Old Red Barn where this project took root. Downstairs was her shop and studio many years ago. Other imagery which she is well known for also floats around. Here on the side of this computer shell is one of her recognizable icons.
Thanks to YoloLocalMusic for this short video taken at the Opening on Monday night, also celebrating Julie’s Birthday.
Thank you Julie for daring to make a difference in this world.
