This December 12th 2015 is the 484th anniversary the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
10 years after the Spanish conquered Mexico, Our Lady appeared to an indigenous man named Juan Diego. She appeared on a hill called Tepeyac, outside of Mexico City. The hill was the site of an ancient temple; a temple of the Mother Goddess of the indigenous inhabitants of the valley of Mexico. She appeared with a commanding message. Her command was simple and direct: “Tell the Catholic bishop to build me a church on this spot.”
It’s a long story, but in the end, the church was built.
Guadalupe is one of the most adored goddesses in the world. Her image has become the most widely recognized Marian image. However, unlike Our lady of Lourdes, Remedies or Fatima, Guadalupe left psychical proof of her presence.
This year officials are expecting over 7 million persons to pay their respects on December 12th in Mexico City. Here is my photograph from last year of Juan Diego’s tilma that hangs in Guadalupe’s Basillica in Mexico City.
This art installation exalts Guadalupe with hundreds of images. We’ll open up the installation to the public on Saturday, December 12 from 7-10pm. Please come and join the festivities!
